Chapter 6

“Bitches,” Hannah said, stepping out of the shadows. She hadn’t wanted to kill them, but the Amazons seldom gave anyone a choice—it was kill or be killed. She and Lyrianna had to silence the first one who came searching for them, and when Hannah had feared the leader would hurt Wulf, she’d waited impatiently for a clear shot. Once it presented itself, she fired without hesitation. She turned to Erik and Wulf as she shoved her pistol back into its holster. “You guys okay?”

They appeared a bit stunned. Erik’s dark eyes scanned her from head to toe, but he wasn’t smiling. What that meant, she had not a clue.

Wulf was even harder to read. His eyes had grown a darker shade of gray, and he seemed to be staring past her instead of at her. Then she realized why. “You better come out, Lyrianna, before they think you’re one of those Amazons,” Hannah said with a small chuckle. “Although you’re a helluva lot prettier.”

Lyrianna strode forward, and just when Hannah was going to introduce her to the guys, she caught the quick intake of air by both men. Inwardly groaning, she tried not to let them see how hurt she was by their stunned reactions to Lyrianna.

No wonder. Her Belusian friend was beautiful. She had flowing blonde hair and eyes that seemed to sparkle with life. Her figure made most men need to wipe drool from their chins when they first saw her. Hannah might have nearly identical coloring—same hair and light eyes, although sky blue instead of gray—but she always thought her skin looked pale because she never got to spend much time in any kind of sunlight. Lyrianna, on the other hand, had skin the perfect shade of tan.

Wulf held out his hand. “Wulf Stratton. Thanks for the assist.”

Lyrianna gave him a quick handshake before awkwardly pulling her hand back and turning a worried gaze to Hannah. “Lyrianna Seebré. And you’re welcome.”

Erik stepped forward and shook her hand as well. “Erik Leonard. We really appreciate the rescue.”

Hannah had never seen Lyrianna appear so uncomfortable. She scraped the toe of her boot across the concrete, nibbled on her bottom lip, and kept her head slightly bowed. Did she turn shy when someone thanked or praised her? “We owe you, Lyri.”

“You came up with the plan, Hannah,” Lyrianna replied. “The guys should be thanking you, not me.” She leveled a hard stare at Wulf and then Erik. “Well?”

“Well what?” Wulf asked. He looked confused enough, he should just scratch his head to get the cliché out of the way. Perhaps he was trying to figure out exactly how Hannah was able to get off his ship with such ease and come to their rescue so quickly, that or he was too obtuse to know Lyrianna was scolding them.

Lyrianna folded her arms over her full breasts. “Don’t you have something to say to Hannah? Even after everything you’ve put her through, she didn’t escape and leave you two to the Amazons.
